Composite prints 3D rugby giants

Sydney firm Composite Images printed 14 larger than life models for the 2017 Rugby League World Cup, which have spent the last two months travelling with the competition.
Each model stands 2.4m high, are illuminated internally using LED lighting and was printed in multiple parts by Composite Images and then assembled, lit and dressed by the team at Gorilla Constructions. The uniforms were custom fabricated to match each of the 14 nations in the competition.
The company printed the images on its Massivit 3D printer.

Bruce Scott, CEO for Composite Images says, “It was initially done through Gorilla Constructions – they came up with the idea of large models and they asked us to print them with our 3D printer. It was a fun project and they look very impressive.
“We usually do large format printing and displays. 3D printing is new for us. There are two of these machines in the country, the other is in Melbourne. I went into 3D printing because it looked like fun. I could see it expanding and it has a large market with lots of potential growth. As a printer, we are always looking for different avenues.”
Scott says he has owned the company for about 30 years. Scott says, “We were one of the first in Sydney doing wide format printing.”
